Primal Urge body Piercing was established in 1992 in Wildwood New Jersey and relocated to New Hope, Pa. in 1995. The founder of Primal Urge, Ron Rotatori, is known as a political advocate for proper body piercing regulations. In 1994, Ron worked with Pat Sarnice, The Wildwood Boardwalk Inspector, to develop regulations for body piercing on the Boardwalk. Ron was active in regulating Seaside Heights New Jersey in 1995, worked with Governor Whitman and Assemblywomen Greco in developing regulations for the State of New Jersey and worked with Mr. Zippen of the Philadelphia Health Department to develop regulations for Greater Philadelphia Pa.

Primal Urge is one of the oldest and most respected body piercing facilities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Primal Urge has set the standard for clean and safe body piercing as Primal Urge is the only body piercing facility to undergo a full OSHA inspection under Bloodbourne Pathogen Standards by an OSHA inspector. This standard far exceeds the mandated regulations for body piercing in the State of New Jersey and the voluntary regulations for Greater Philadelphia and is the reason Primal Urge is the cleanest and safest piercing facility in the region.

5. Primal Urge performs all piercing procedures utilizing standard medical procedures to avoid cross contamination and infecting the piercing during the piercing procedure.

6. The body piercing procedures are performed in full compliance with all OSHA Regulations under Bloodbourne Pathogen Standards. Unless the body piercing facility is operating in full compliance with OSHA Regulations, they have the potential of transmitting Hepatitis and TB.

7. From the moment the body is pierced by the piercing needle the healing process begins. Primal Urge will provide you with an aftercare program which works with the body's natural healing process to heal a wound. We take the time to explain the aftercare program and offer you the program in writing.

8. With any semi-surgical procedure it is necessary that you visit the Piercer during the healing process for a follow up visit to insure you are healing properly and avoid a complication which is beyond repair.

9. The healing time of each piercing does vary with each person, changing your jewelry to early can increase the risk of infection. When you feel you are healed visit Primal Urge and our piercing staff will check you're piercing and make sure the healing process is complete.

10. Not all navel rings, for example, are suited for every navel. The style of body piercing jewelry you select involves several factors, such as, anatomy of the piercing site, your anatomy, the angle of the piercing combined with skin tone, hair color, eye color and personal preferences. The 4 Key Factors For a Successful Piercing

There are four key factors you must consider when you are pierced to insure a successful piercing.

Proper Jewelry:

To have the greatest chance of receiving a healed, healthy piercing it is imperative that proper jewelry is used for a new piercing. The jewelry styles used by Primal Urge are based on medical fact and the natural healing process of a wound. When you have a wound on your body the body will push sterile body fluid through the tissue which absorbs the bacteria. The body fluid comes to the surface and creates a scab. New skin forms under the scab and then falls off. The healing process is exactly the same when you are pierced, except the body piercing jewelry is preventing the scab from forming. As a result the fluid sticks to the body jewelry. If you allow the body fluid to remain on the body jewelry the microorganisms that are on your body naturally are now attracted to this body fluid and creates the bacteria that caused an infection. Proper jewelry for all piercings except a tongue piercing is a ring. Having a ring in a new piercing allows you to remove the body fluid from all the metal every day. When you use a bar or a stud for a new piercing you are restricting your ability to remove body fluid and as a result the infection rate is 8 times greater with a bar or a stud vs. using a ring for a new piercing.

The Piercing Facility:

The cleanliness of the piercing facility and the level of sterilization and sanitation used by the Body Piercer will have a direct bearing on the healing process of the piercing. Primal Urge utilizes a high level disinfection procedure to insure not only surface bacteria are killed but also airborne bacteria. When you enter the Primal Urge Piercing Facility it not only looks clean but it smells clean. The Primal Urge facility is completely disinfected on a daily basis to insure your piercing is preformed and a perfectly clean and safe environment. There is much more to a truly clean and safe piercing environment than white walls and tile on the floor. The Primal Urge Piercing Facility has undergone a full inspection by an OSHA inspector to insure the cleanliness of the piercing facility. To protect yourself from those who claim to be OSHA inspected, ask to view the Piercing Facilities OSHA Compliance Manual, without this 40 page document a piercing facility cannot pass an OSHA inspection.

Proper Aftercare:

Primal Urge Body Piercing aftercare program uses the body's natural ability to heal a wound. With any wound on your body, the healing process is the same. The body will pass sterile body fluid through the wound, which absorbs the bacteria in the tissue and then comes to the surface to make a scab. New skin begins to grow under the scab and when healed the scab falls off. The only difference between a cut and a piercing is the body piercing jewelry. The body fluid still passes through the tissue but is not able to form a scab; rather it sticks to the body piercing jewelry. If you allow the body fluid to stay on the body piercing jewelry, the microorganisms on the body naturally become attracted to this body fluid, gather and create the bacteria that can cause an infection.

Aftercare Compliance:

Primal Urge is always available to assist you during the healing process of your piercing. Primal Urge ask that you comply with are aftercare program do not divert from the aftercare program unless recommended by your Primal Urge Body Piercer. Primal Urge will attempt to offer you basic guidelines which you need to comply with during the healing process.
